Going Back Home
Woman in the Middle | August 12, 2015If I could, I would spend every day going to estate sales and thrift stores. I love looking for old treasures! I don’t for two reasons:
1. I don’t have time.
2. I am trying to get rid of stuff, not add more stuff.
But every once in a while, I break down and hit an estate sale. A year or so ago I found a yearbook from 1942 at a half off day. It just cost me a dollar or two. I love old stuff, and I hated to see something as full of history as a yearbook just disappear who knows where. I loved looking through it and seeing the 1940s fashions. I loved reading how the school had decided to heed the president’s call to “curtail civilian needs” in the interests of the war effort. Instead of publishing a large yearbook, they settled on what they called a “booklet.”
This beautiful campus building was shown on the first page.
Don’t you just love this young lady’s coat?
Recently I unearthed it again and decided to offer it to the school it came from, Washington Missionary College. The school has changed names several times and is now called Washington Adventist University.
It is an Adventist school, and we have an Adventist university in the big city next door, as well as an even larger one a couple of cities over, so it is no a surprise that someone who attended an Adventist college back east would have made their way to this area.
I contacted the office of alumni relations and they are happy to get the yearbook to add to their collection. I am happy for it to go where it belongs. All for the price of a couple of dollars and some postage. I am feeling both good and productive today!
At the end of the booklet was a copy of the school song, along with a photo.
