Day Out – Joseph Filippi Winery
Woman in the Middle | June 1, 2016
Did you know that Inland Southern California was once home to thousands of grape vines and wineries galore? Most of those vines have been replaced by homes and businesses, but there are still a few historic wineries. We decided Memorial Day weekend would be a good time to take some friends wine tasting at one of our local wineries.
We visited the Joseph Filippi Winery in Rancho Cucamonga, in the heart of the historic Cucamonga Valley vineyard region. The Filippis have been growing wine grapes there since 1922. In 1993 they moved from their old winery location to the historic Regina Winery, where they are located today.
The old winery building dates to 1908 and is a prefect place to taste a little vino.
Tastings are just $5.00 to try five different wines from their extensive list. We tried whites, we tried sweets, we tried a red and we tried a dessert wine. Yum! FYI, make sure you have a designated driver. Hubby and I shared one set of five tastings, so as not to over indulge. Our friends each had the five tastings on their own and were glad we were driving!
Near the parking lot is a lovely grass area with tables and benches, perfect for a picnic, but not with wine. You have to stay close to the building for that. Luckily, there are some picnic tables up by the building where you can enjoy your picnic WITH wine.
The Joseph Filippi Winery is open every day but Monday for wine tasting. Check their website for times and special events.
Filippi Winery is located at 12467 Base Line Street in Rancho Cucamonga.
