White Roses
Woman in the Middle | January 26, 2012When we bought our new house almost two years ago one of the things I REALLY wanted was nice landscaping in the front yard so I didn’t have to spend a lot of money and time putting something in. I am happy to report that I did get that. The front yard appears to have been landscaped, maybe even professionally, with a white and purple theme. Maybe not what I would have done, but I am happy it looks pretty good and I don’t have to do much to it. Of course, there is always something in the “Be careful what you wish for” arena. The front yard has at least 10 white rose bushes! I refuse to make an accurate count because at this time of year it is just depressing. Why? Because it is rose trimming time!
Based on my experience I know what is going to happen. I will trim and trim and trim and it still won’t done! I will fill trash can after trash can full of rose trimmings and it STILL won’t be done! I will try to go zen and go to my happy gardener place, but that will probably last for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, every time I go out side the roses bushes call to me….”Trim Me! Trim Me!”
I know why few young mothers have rose bushes. Roses are a middle age thing for a reason. It doesn’t matter that the rest of the year I can ignore them. Anything that takes this much time even once a year did not belong in my life when my children were still in school. Maybe this is God’s way of laughing at me and telling me my life is changing. “Kim” says God, “Now you have time for roses! Get used to it!”
