Do You Remember …Coppertone Shade?
Woman in the Middle | November 9, 2014As we clean out Mom In Law’s house (which I am beginning to think will never end) we keep running across products and household items from the past. You know, those things that have a way of migrating to the back of the bathroom or kitchen cabinets and getting forgotten. But that is where the treasures are hidden!
Some of the things amuse me and so I have decided to start a “Do You Remember” series of blog posts so I can share them with you. I hope you will find these things as amusing as I do! Maybe they will even bring back some memories.
The first thing I want to share is Coppertone Shade. Remember, back in the day before SPF numbers appeared on our sunscreen and we didn’t worry about skin cancer? When everyone’s goal was a nice tan? Then you just might remember Coppertone Shade. I do!
The best part, the part that had me laughing in an ironic sort of way, was what was said on the back of the bottle. “Here is extra sunburn protection for blondes, redheads, children – all whose skin is sun sensitive, burns easily. Contains extra amounts of Coppertone’s famous sunscreen, yet permits a rich soft tan…. Directions: Apply frequently….Begin with short exposure, lengthening daily as skin becomes “sun-conditioned.”
I don’t know about you, but my red headed mother’s skin was never going to become “sun-conditioned,” no matter how much Coppertone shade she used or how much she was out in the sun. Ah, the good old days! Maybe I should just go get a spray tan…..
