I Wasn’t Last
Woman in the Middle | June 5, 2014I participated once again in my city’s 5K run/walk. Since I have actually been exercising these last couple of months, it went better for me than last year, I am happy to report.
First, on the wicked hill my urge to sit down and refuge to budge came later and lasted less time. I was almost near the top when the overwhelming urge to start knocking on people’s doors and ask for a drink and the chance to sit on their couch washed over me. It didn’t help that a lady in front of me stopped one of the event vans and got a ride to the top. Man, it was very hard not to join her!
I finished faster this year and, best of all, I met my goal to NOT BE LAST! We all have to have goals. right? There were at least four whole adult people who crossed the finish line after me. I was officially not last.
My friend Tracy walked with me which allowed Hubby to do his thing at his own pace, which was a much faster pace than mine. Once he was done he walked back and met us. That puzzled the people at the finish line, who are friends of ours. He kept hearing, “Hey, didn’t you already finish?”
I want to walk another 5K this year. But I would like that one to be on the flat lands, not in the hills!
