Disney World – Part 2 – Epcot Food and Wine Festival

Woman in the Middle | December 4, 2017

We spent two full days each at Epcot and Magic Kingdom and one full day at Animal Kingdom. On our very first day we headed out to Epcot, because that was the very last day of their annual Food and Wine Festival. Epcot was the park I was most looking forward to because we have nothing like it in California. I also like to travel, so I wanted to “travel” around the world in the World Showcase.

We decided on our first day to concentrate on the food and wine, knowing we would be back on another day to see anything we missed while eating our way around the world. And eat we did because EVERY single bite we put in our mouth was delicious. Is there a word that means even better than delicious? Exquisite? Fantastic? Amazing? Well, you got my drift!

In order to taste as many different things as possible, we usually bought one item and shared it among the four of us. That allowed for two to four bites each. That may seem like a tiny portion, but we ate so many different things that we were full the whole day.

This is what we ate:

Patagonia – Beef empanadas – This was the first item we bought and was the only item we got two of to share among the four of us. After buying them (I think they were $5 each) I had a little buyer’s remorse. After all, I had had empanadas before. Why was I wasting my money on something so boring? Then I tasted it. Best empanadas ever! I knew then we were going to have a delicious day!

Spain – Sweet olive oil cake with lemon curd on top; Spanish meat, cheese and olives in a herbed vinaigrette. The cake was delightfully light. The meat, cheese and olives were yummy. That last item was the only one of the of the day I thought to myself “I could make this.”  And I just might. After all, I do have the ability to cut up meat and cheese!

Brazil – layered meat pie with mashed yucca; cheese bread. – I have no idea where the yucca was, but we enjoyed the meat pie. The cheese bread was delightful as well. The glass of chardonnay we got at this booth went very nicely with our small plates as well.

France – Warm goat cheese pudding with spinich; raspberry creme brulee – I love a good creamy texture which is why I went straight for the goat cheese pudding. I was not disappointed! It was like a savory creme brulee! And the creme brulee itself was delightful, too.

Ireland – Warm Irish Cheddar cheese and stout dip with brown bread for dipping; warm chocolate pudding with Irish Cream liqueur custard.  – Ireland was by far our favorite stop in a day filled with favorite stops. The dip was amazing. Thank goodness Eldest Daughter had a bag of airline pretzels in her purse as we had lots of cheese dip left after we finished the bread and we didn’t want to waste a drop of the delicious tasting dip! The chocolate “pudding” was more like a pudding cake and the custard seemed to have been absorbed by the cake. However, it was to die for, so who cares? We also had the Bunraty Meade Honey wine in Ireland. Again, so delightful it makes me smile just thinking about it! This wine was sweet and had a thick creamy mouth feel that was so nice!

To top it all off, they were serving Dole Whip topped with coconut rum! OMG! We all love Dole Whip and adding the rum just made it even more delightful!

There was also a booth sponsored by Blue Diamond almonds where we got fire-roasted tomato humus sprinkled with almonds, It was also delightful!

Reading the list of what we had, it really doesn’t sound like that much. However, as I mentioned earlier, we were not hungry for the whole day. I have no idea how anyone could eat very much if they had the entire small plate to themselves.

I have spent so much time ont he Food and Wine Festival I will have to do a separate post on Epcot itself.
