Thanksgiving Musings
Woman in the Middle | November 24, 2017I don’t know why, but we always make way too many mashed potatoes. There was no way that the nine people at our house were going to eat the giant pot Hubby mashed up for our Thanksgiving. If the weather cools down maybe I will make a Shepard’s pie this coming week to try and use them up.
Speaking of the weather, it continues to be record-breaking hot around here. It was 94 degrees yesterday for Turkey Day. With the oven blazing and the AC blowing, I have a feeling that the electric company is going to tell us that we used more electricity than normal this November. Oh well, such is life.
Youngest and Eldest Daughters went out to do what has become their traditional holiday sales shopping last night. I am too old for that! LOL! I just let my fingers do the walking over the computer keyboard and bought stuff online. Actually, of all the things I bought, Only one was a gift. The others wee good deals on toys and blankets we need for our upcoming Children’s Christmas Party. 1200 children were invited this year. We will get about 800 to 900 to attend, I am guessing. So those 22 board games I bought will only make a small dent, but it is still 22 less presents we have to go looking for in the next few weeks.
The best Thanksgiving story I heard was about two friends of Youngest Daughter. The couple moved to New Jersey so the young man could attend graduate school in robotics. Virtually all of the other people in the program are Chinese students. So the couple invited them all over to enjoy an American Thanksgiving. How cool is that?

My friend Mary likes to have an international Thanksgiving at her house. She invites college students in the international exchange program to her house and asks them to bring a dish from their country, while she makes dishes from her own country, which the Philippines. It makes for an interesting night.
Sounds great!
