Like the Good Old Days
Woman in the Middle | November 5, 2017When the girls were young, Eldest Daughter in particular got colds all the time, which inevitably caused ear infections. It seemed like we had the “pink medicine,” amoxicillin, in our refrigerator all the time. Of course, the girls passed the cold back and forth. It was a never ending life of sniffles and tissues and meds. If we were really lucky, Hubby and I would get it, too! We slugged back Nyquil during that time like it was a fine liqueur.
I feel like I have returned to that time. Unfortunately, the cats are passing around a cat virus that causes a bit of an upper repository thing. There is sneezing and head shaking and one after another just feels yucky. So what is back in my fridge? A big bottle of liquid antibiotics, just like the old days. The difference its it is sitting next to a can of tuna. Back in the day, the kids didn’t need the tuna to take their medicine, lol!
First Dax had it. But his strong “life on the streets and orphanage” background caused his first round to be less difficult. But when poor Lumos came down with it he immediately felt very poorly. His immune system has not been challenged as much, living as he has in isolated splendor at our house. So I rushed him off to the vet and Dr. M kindly gave me enough antibiotics to cover the whole crowd. Meanwhile, Dax began sneezing again and started the head shaking again as well.
So the meds began last night. Nox is giving us a bit of a “but I am not sick” routine. However, everyone loves the tuna. I can get the meds into Lumos and Nox (with assistance) but I am not even trying with Dax. It goes right into his food. Add tuna and all is good. I am happy to report Lumos is already feeling better and was tearing around the house this morning like a crazy cat. But this is what he looked like last night.
As least this in one virus Mom and Dad don’t have to worry about getting!
I hope your cats get well soon. At least you won’t get it too.
Poor kitties. I hate medicating cats. My group is not particularly accommodating. I have found chewed pills behind chairs.
I insisted on liquid. But they are getting suspicious of me after only two doses, sadly. By the end of the week it should be fun.
Doesn’t it suck when sickness gets passed around like a hot potato
Even when it is among the cats! LOL!
