Another Change in the ‘Hood
Woman in the Middle | October 8, 2017Last year at this time our neighbors to the south put their home up for sale and moved to the beach. Now, a year later, we just found out that the neighbors to the north are putting their home up for sale in order to move to Reno. This new neighbor change is even move anxiety provoking because they are the neighbors who would occasionally get our mail for us, whose big dogs barked at anything that should be barked at, and who always shared the load of mulch with us for the front yard planters. Change…yuck….
I wondered why this is so anxiety provoking for me. After all, people sell their houses all the time. Then I thought about our old house, the one we moved into a year and a half after we married. We lived there for 22 years before moving to this house over seven years ago. Amazingly enough, the houses on either side, directly behind and directly across the street, are all occupied by the very same people who lived there when we moved in almost thirty years ago. There have been some changes. One couple divorced and the husband moved out, but the wife is still there. Another couple both passed away, but their adult daughter, who was a teen living at home when we moved in, now lives in the house with her daughter. Another neighbor is now a widower.
So never a new neighbor in the old neighborhood, but two new neighbors in the houses most likely to affect our quality of life in the new neighborhood. I am happy to report that the new neighbors we got a year ago are great, quiet, and we hardly ever notice they are there. I think they find us to be the same. Here is hoping the new neighbors on the other side are equally nice and quiet.
