Random Musings – July 1, 2017
Woman in the Middle | July 1, 2017You know you live in a strange place when palm trees are weeds. Yes, weeds. The most common palm tree used in landscaping around here, the really tall one you see in every photo and image of So Cal, produces seeds galore. They get everywhere, even if you don’t have one of them in your yard, and before you know it, you have a little palm tree here and a little palm tree there. If you ignore them for a little while, suddenly they are two or three feet tall. If you ignore them for a while longer, you suddenly discover you have a big fat five foot tall palm tree, just where you least want it. Those little devils are sneaky, too. You look at your front yard one day and suddenly, there is a palm tree, sticking up from the middle of a rose bush or from behind some other bushes. Yep, palm trees are weeds!
Our weather has cooled off quite a bit. It is in the 80s and nice at night. We open up our windows and let the cool air in. Of course, the heat will inevitably come back. But I am trying to enjoy the weather right now and not think about it!
There was a one year old at our house today. A friend of Eldest Daughter brought their cute little girl over to swim in our pool. After the initial shock of the cool water, she loved it. She didn’t love the word “no” on the rare occasion it had to be said by her dad. Ah yes, I remember when the word “no” could cause a little child to melt down. But only for a minute.
Hope you are having a great weekend. I am just getting some long needed housework and yard work done. Scrub, scrub, scrub! Weed, weed, weed!
I never knew that about palms. They are still the tree I miss most about growing up in Florida.
