Someone Got Funky with the Cat Grass
Woman in the Middle | June 2, 2017Way back when we went to Universal Studios for a few days, we got the kitties a flat of St. Augustine grass for their enjoyment while we were gone. For whatever reason, I can only keep that flat of grass alive so long and then, no matter what I do, it turns up its toes and dies. When it has done that in the past, I just tossed it. But this time, every time I would think about throwing it away, I would see a cat enjoying it.
So, as you can see, it was all good with the dead grass, until yesterday. Eldest Daughter was the one to spot something odd going on. At one time or another yesterday morning, she spotted each one of the cats, including Blackie, stroll over, giver the flat of grass a really good sniff, and then walk away. The younger guys tend to open their mouth when sniffing, to put it delicately, some sort of body odor. Well, every time they sniffed the grass, those little mouths were hanging wide open.
Finally, Nox couldn’t take it anymore, and he laid down on the beloved dead grass, but all the way off to one side, as the offending odor seemed to be in the middle of the flat of grass. That didn’t last long, however. Last evening I got to witness the sniff and mouth hanging open ritual myself when Lumos made another pass by the dead grass. At that point I couldn’t take it anymore and I threw out the grass.
Our best guess is that one of the cats piddled in the grass. Our other best guess is that the offending party would be Blackie, since he is the one lately that had been doing the deed in odd places. I think we will go get another flat of grass in a few days, when we are near our local Lowe’s. Then the kitties will be happy again.
