Random Musings June 13, 2017
Woman in the Middle | June 13, 2017I was on the phone the other evening about 8:30. I happened to be sitting on the couch in our family room, facing the sliding glass door to our backyard. Just then, a little black and white face with a bandit mask traveled into view, and stopped to look inside the house. A raccoon! They are so cute! I called to everyone to come see (as if we haven’t seen a raccoon before) while my friend waited patiently on the phone. Well, the raccoon went away and I settled back onto the couch. Then another little face appeared. I called everyone again. My friend waited patiently again. It walked on to whatever its appointed rounds were. I settled in yet again. Then, you guessed it, another cute face appeared! Yep, three medium sized raccoons, all traveling along the back wall of the house, all stopping to look inside the house. All unseen by all three cats, who, we assume, would have been curious and freaked out all at once. Eldest saw the last one go wash its hands in the pool. So glad we could maintain that nice, clean, hand washing station for them!
We went to eat and walk around downtown Redlands (about a half hour drive from our home, with normal traffic) on Saturday night. Eldest Daughter, who works that direction and therefore is more familiar with that area than we are, suggested we get ice cream afterwards at a shop called a la minute. It is one of these shops that makes your ice cream right in front of you using liquid nitrogen. I had never had the new trend in ice cream so I was up for giving it a try. They have a window where you can see them making the ice cream. They pour the ingredients into a mixing bowl and, with the mixer running, pour the liquid nitrogen into the bowl, usually two or three times. When the ice cream is at the right hardness, they scoop it out into your cup. I had the dark chocolate and orange ice cream, which they topped with some candied orange peel. Delicious! I love chocolate and orange together and this was definitely a winner. The ice cream was very creamy as well, as a result of the way it was made. When you get a chance to try this new kind of ice cream, I recommend giving it a try!

Hubby and I were watching TV Sunday night when, about 9:30 pm, all heck broke loose out behind our house on the golf course. It was a pack of coyotes yipping and howling. It was so loud that at first I thought a party had started up down the street, before I realized it was a pack of coyotes. It went on for several minutes and got us a little worried about Cloud the outdoor wild cat. However, as I told Hubby, Cloud is so scrawny I doubted the coyotes would have gotten that noisy over him. I am happy to report that Cloud is just fine (at least in a not eaten by coyotes sort of way). I have avoided looking out at the the golf course since then, for fear of seeing what was making them so excited.
interesting musings…. )
Just have to sit around for the most part and see what critter is going to kick up a ruckus, then go get ice cream!
That ice cream sounds nice, never seen a raccoon ever none around here nor do we have coyotes.
You have your own interesting set of animals!
Hope they didn’t get the raccoons!
Fingers crossed on that one. We thought about that as well.
I read about about a la Minute in Westways & made a special trip right after it first opened. A bit pricey, but delicious!
Do you remember what flavor you had? The vanilla and olive oil was just a little too trendy for me to try!
I’m sorry you didn’t stop by to say hi.
Last minute decision. We decided where we were going as we backed out of the driveway!
