A Big Hello to Winter
Woman in the Middle | May 8, 2017Last week we had summer, Then this weekend winter came roaring back. Note the season we seem to be missing – Spring! You know, that season we are smack in the middle of? Of lovely days and cool nights? Of windows open and no need for heat or AC? Yeah…no, not having much of that!
This weekend was CRAZY! It got so cold I was thinking about putting out Christmas decorations! Then I reminded myself that it is MAY, not December! I pulled out the winter sweaters and jeans and socks and heavy winter shoes again. Here I thought I was done with them.
Youngest Daughter went to an outdoor concert on Saturday night. It was at a higher elevation and got really cold there. By about 8 or 9 pm, it was down to 40 degrees F. Thank goodness her friend had heavy jackets in her car, just by accident and happenstance. As Youngest said in her Facebook post, they went expecting sunshine, and got cold, rain and hail instead.
Oh yes, did I mention the rain? The sun, clouds, and rain flirted with us all weekend, until yesterday afternoon when it really poured for a little while. Hubby and I were at an indoor graduation party when that happened. Imagine our surprise when we pulled into our driveway, to see a large puddle, which we get when it rains quite a bit.
On Sunday, at noon, I was off to another event, and my car said it was all of 57F. Around here that is parka weather!
About 7 pm last night, Youngest and I went to the grocery store. I was wishing I had worn a sweatshirt instead of a long sleeve shirt, because it was 54F. As we left the store about a half hour later, I told her what I was finding so weird about our unusual weather. Usually, when it is as cold as it was yesterday, it is dark by 5 or 5:30 pm. I was having a hard time wrapping my head around it being so light so late and yet being so cold.
As usual, Mother Nature was keeping us on our toes here in So Cal. What is the weather in your neck of the woods? Is is normal, or strange like ours?
