Trying to Stop Killing Trees
Woman in the Middle | September 12, 2016Mom in law was a catalog shopper extraordinaire. When she passed away we forwarded her mail to our house. Next thing you know our mail box was filled with catalogs. We had other things on our minds and, besides, it was kind of fun to look at the occasional catalog. I also figured that, with time, as we didn’t purchase anything, the catalogs would gradually stop coming.
But it isn’t so fun anymore. We rarely look at them now and they haven’t gone away, almost three years later. They now go straight into the recycling bin. What a waste of my time throwing them out. What a waste of paper and ink. Then last night I was reading a magazine and came across, yet again, the name of the site that helps you get off mailing lists. It is catelogchoice.org.
I went on last night and signed up. I thought I would just put my name and address on some massive “do not send” list and “voila” we would stop getting catalogs. Well, nothing in life is quite that simple! But it was still pretty easy to use. I signed up. Then I gathered the latest batch of catalogs from the desk and entered them, the address, name, and codes off the address label. No biggy.
If I had a smart phone, there is an app you can use called paperkarma.com. Apparently with that you can take a photo of the mailing label and go from there.
I fear I have started too late to make much of a dent in the Christmas catalog avalanche this year, but, hopefully, by Christmas 2017, my mailbox will be able to sigh with relief.
Have any of you used either of these methods to stop catalogs? If so, did they work?
I’ve never heard of them. Except for a few that I like, I don’t get too many unwanted ones. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone.
I love catalogues but don’t get them mailed to us we just get them delivered once a week they are left on top of the mail boxes, the type that get mailed to you can be good if you are not a person who can get out much but I am not interested in them just a waste of paper indeed
I don’t get any catalogues I don’t want.
Lucky You!
