And So it Begins Again
Woman in the Middle | August 17, 2016Maybe you read in your morning newspaper or heard on the news, but inland So cal is on fire. It started at 10:30 yesterday morning and went from “Look, a flame” to “By all that is holy, HELP!” in about a nano second.
The fire started in an area called the Cajon Pass. This is the break in the mountains between the low and high deserts though which all, and I do mean all, traffic funnels that is going between Southern California and Las Vegas, and points north. This includes car and truck traffic and train traffic. The Cajon Pass area is not developed. It is a beautiful and wild area to drive through. But it also means it is full of the kinds of things that burn, especially during a drought. It is a good place for a fire to get started.
We have one friend who had to evacuate, one of the estimated 80,000+ people who had to do so. You read that right. The equivalent of a good sized city had to pack up their photos and find someplace else to go. All schools in that region canceled class today. Even the ones not threatened by the fire have too much smoke to make school a viable option. The ones close to the fire are evacuation centers so they have another purpose right now.
Here it hoping our amazing firefighters get a break soon and can get the fire under control.
It must be summer in So Cal.
