Out of the Rabbit Hole Again
Woman in the Middle | August 20, 2016We have a cat who is 17 1/2 years old. What is that, 90 or 100 in human years? He has good days and bad days. The last few we could tell he was feeling off, not horrible, but not good. I took him to the vet. There is only so much they can do due to his various chronic but not life threatening issues. I brought him home. I had a serious talk with the girls. We cried a bit. I had a serious talk with Hubby when he got home. As I lay in bed last night I made the mistake of allowing my mind to drift to Backie. I cried a little more.
When Hubby couldn’t sleep at 4 something this morning he wandered out of the den and Blackie greeted him and asked to be fed, so Hubby did. When Honey wanted out at 6:30 this morning, Blackie greeted me and asked to be fed. Then he asked to be fed two more times before 9 am rolled around. As Hubby said this morning, “He fools us yet again.”
Just when we think Blackie is going down the rabbit hole, as we phrase it, every single time so far he has popped his head back out, with a hungry look on his face. Who knows how many more times that will happen, or should happen. But, at least this morning, he is eating and seems content. So we will take it for what it is worth.
I’m sorry. I know it’s hard.
Kudos to Bkackie. He has an idomitable spirit and a great hunger for life…. and your love is keeping him going.
Sounds so familiar. I had a year of that with Jake. Just as I made “the” decision he rebounded. It wasn’t until I got sleep deprived from the nighttime terror he had, that it became more clear. I wasn’t even sure if Jake was in there anymore. You will know. Somehow you will.
Been there so many times with my animal companions. It’s never easy and the time is never right. Yet when its time, we know and they do too…
Hands folded for you all and for Blackie.
I’m very happy to hear that Blackie is still keeping on keeping on.
