Hello, I am an Adult, Too!
Woman in the Middle | July 11, 2016If there is one thing that has annoyed me during the 30 years of my marriage, it is when I discover yet again that, in the eyes of whatever financial institution I/we are dealing with at the time, I am considered a second class citizen, always the subservient partner in my legal relationship with my dear husband. Mind you, he in no way thinks of me that way. We are equal partners through and through, always have been. Even when, financially, we have been unequal, and there have been times in our relationship when I made more money and times when he made more money, we have always been equal.
This week was another of those instances. Hubby asked me to look and see if we paid full price for a prescription earlier this year during a confusing insurance change over. If we did, he wanted me to ask for a refund from the insurance company. I wanted to look at our credit card statements online to see if such a purchase was made. However, I was using Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer, so the credit card site didn’t recognize the computer. I had to get some nifty code from them to go ahead. They said I could get the code by email (but it was to Hubby’s email) or text to a phone (but it was Hubby’s phone) or I could just call them. In an effort to not bother Hubby any more at work, I decided to call the credit card company and get the precious code.
The problem was I am not an “authorized user” on the account, only Hubby is. Mind you, if that bill doesn’t get paid they are going to go after me just as hard as Hubby, and my credit score can be hit just as much as his, but otherwise only he is the authorized user. Of course, only Hubby, the Great God of Authority, can give permission to make me an authorized user as well. My blood was boiling at this point.
I called Hubby at work (so much for not bothering him) to explain why I couldn’t do what he had hoped I could do about the prescription payment. Hubby got tired of me calling him ”O Great God who holds My Life In His Hands” during that phone call. I told him he needs to make me an authorized user ASAP. He agreed, of course. I hope to soon have equal status with my Hubby on our credit card account, not just in paying to bills, but in dealing with the account as well. Double sigh….
Yep know the feeling at times I have had this problem and it is so frustrating I am an authorised user most of the time but recently when we had to ring Telstra they decided I wasn’t even though I have been authorised for years but suddenly I wasn’t so Tim had to ring them yet again.
I hope the Hubby god fixes this mess pronto!!
