Heartache Then and Now
Woman in the Middle | July 8, 2016I was born in 1961. I remember, the late 1960s and early 1970s when the news was filled with what seemed like constant horror. The Vietnam war and all the death and destruction it brought was a daily feature in the newspaper and on the nightly news. There was the assassination of Robert Kennedy, with the extra horror because it followed the assassination of his brother President John Kennedy several years before. There was the assassination of Martin Luther King and the riots that followed. There were the Manson killings and horror that brought. It was, needless to say, a very bad time.
I remind myself, as the near constant horrors of the past months reveal themselves, that human beings are resilient, if nothing else. However, that does not take away the pain that individuals feel when their friend or loved one is lost in one of these seemingly endless horrific acts. I will pray that their hurt be soothed, that they remember the good and not the bad, that they soon can laugh and smile again.
And I pray that the hate that fills the hearts of so many will be removed.
I will join you in these prayers.
