It’s Rodeo Time!
Woman in the Middle | June 4, 2016My community used to have a rodeo, before the great recession killed it off. But it was remembered with great fondness by people and there were many who really wanted it to come back. Well, an intrepid band of volunteers pulled it off this year. The rodeo is back! It is amazing what can happen when people really want to make something happen!
Other than in 1979 when I was stuck selling snow cones in a booth for a high school club, I didn’t go to the rodeo. This was my very first year actually sitting in the stands. While it was hot as Hades here yesterday, when the sun started going down and the breeze kicked in, it was pretty nice. Hubby and I really enjoyed ourselves. We particularly enjoyed the mutton busting. What is that, you may ask? It is very small children, as young as 4, riding sheep! The barrel racing was very fun as well.
When I picked up the paper this morning, there was my beloved town, on the front page. Not for a negative, like bad air, or murder, or car crashes, but for the rodeo. It is good to have it back!
Hubby and I in the stands, waiting for the action to begin.
The clowns and their clown car, er, fire engine.
One of the clowns waits on his barrel for the next bull rider to come out.
Our wonderful flag, and our beautiful hills behind it.
Waiting for the next bronco rider.
Our flag is paraded through the arena one more time at the end of the evening.
That looks like more fun once it turned to evening and was cooler, I’m sure it was fun when it was hot in the afternoon too, though.
A rode sounds like such fun. We have them here but have never gone…. you are inspiring me.
It was fun. A little outside my normal wheelhouse, but sometimes different is nice!
