Being More Mindful
Woman in the Middle | April 20, 2016After the somewhat crazy week I had last week, I am trying to be more mindful this week at to what day it is. I remind myself several times a day, “Today is Wednesday” (or whatever day it is) so I am more aware of my day and my week, and where I am in that week. I don’t like it when weeks get away from me like last week did.
Not that this week is turning out to be less crazy. Gee, I guess this is what happens when you are involved in your community.
Yesterday I spent the middle of my day at a lunch meeting of the local retired teachers association. Yes, there is such a group! I was their speaker. The lady who signed me up to speak has known me since I was about six years old, so I wanted to do a particularly good job. I told them about how I got into local history writing, what I do for our local newspaper, and then some old, slightly scandalous stories I have dug up. It was after lunch so I put an extra effort in to being peppy and animated to keep everyone awake. It went well, I think, and reminded me how much I enjoy doing that sort of thing.
Last night Youngest Daughter, her fellow bridesmaid, and their friend the bride came over to make pew bows for the upcoming wedding. Since I was the one who put together the original design (if you could call bows, ribbon, and fake flowers from the dollar store a “design”…) there was a lot of consultation with me before they dug in and got all 15 done. There was also a lot of laughter and talking, which I enjoyed hearing. There girls have been friends since middle school, so I have heard a lot of that same laughter and talking over the years. I like that I still get to hear it!
Tonight is a meeting with a nonprofit I belong to. Tomorrow night is a big city council meeting to consider a project a lot of people in the community aren’t so thrilled with. Friday night is a fund-raiser casino night for our local chamber of commerce.
Today is a hair cut for me. Today and tomorrow I am accompanying Eldest Daughter to a couple of appointments at her university. Yes, things go better if a parent is there. Isn’t that ridiculous? But Hubby and Eldest and I have had to accept that fact and so I now go to any and all meetings. Meanwhile, I have a blood test I have to get done as the doctor’s appointment to review results is fast approaching. I hope to get that done today as well.
Gosh, is it any wonder the week gets away from me? It is making me tired just writing this all down. Hope your week isn’t quite as busy as mine!
I often forget what day it is, today is Thursday but at times the days seem to run together, I am having a somewhat quiet week not doing much except watching Leo although tomorrow is Friday so that means I am going to be run off my feet again
I have had two weeks like you and am anxiously wanting to go back on “island time.” Good luck with all you do!
I have to remind myself what day it is too. For example, if it’s Tuesday, I have to remind myself that so I know to go to a restaurant where they have Tuesday deals. Hey, every little bit helps!!
