I Will Never Understand Cats
Woman in the Middle | April 2, 2016Blackie suddenly and inexplicably decided he wasn’t much in to eating a few days ago. He ate a little, but not nearly as much as he should. In the meantime, I had gone to the store and picked up a variety of new food to try to tempt his picky palate. Last night he got hungry again, but wanted only new, fresh stuff and only a little at a time. Since he usually gets his medicine in his food, and he wasn’t eating enough of any given bowl of food to get the medicine in him, I finally had to resort to squirting a food/medicine combo into his mouth. No one liked that at all, cat or humans. But, if he doesn’t get his medicine, things will really go south.
This morning, I actually got to sleep in until 8 a.m.. Yay! (Remember when sleeping in was noon? Yeah, I don’t remember that either.) When I got up, I expected to see hubby sacked out on the couch. Instead, he was awake and on the computer. I asked why he was awake. “The cat,” he replied. Apparently, Blackie wanted to eat this morning, but only if it was, according to Hubby, fresh, not chunky, and not fish. We now have five cans of open cat food in the fridge, only one of which is meeting with Blackie’s approval at the moment.
Who knows what set off this most recent food issue with Blackie. No point in taking him to the vet. They won’t know either. I am jut happy he is eating again. A cat that is eating is a cat that is feeling OK, at least in Blackie’s case.
I can just hear Blackie thinking, “Do you blame me for being picky, when I have to put up with these guys?”
I’d get that with Jake sometimes. Fortunately Hazel will eat anything so she would finish off the rest of a can he didn’t like. Anything that had medicine in it had to be thrown out. I gave up putting medicine in the food. It got too hard. Squirting wasn’t Jake’s thing either. It had to be a pill. As he got older it got easier. He either gave up fighting or just didn’t have the energy. When he was young, it was a battle.
Poor Blackie and poor you and family!! Maybe Blackie’s tummy is queasy and so he can’t eat much.
I also will never understand cats, but also I don’t own cats, although we both know humans don’t own cats, cats allow humans to care for them and really they are in charge and we do what we know they want us to do
So right!
