Looking Forward to Springing Forward
Woman in the Middle | March 1, 2016It is that time of year when the whole family, especially Hubby and I, look forward with great anticipation to the time changing. You see, I have two elderly pets who don’t wear wristwatches, don’t look at clocks, don’t keep track of the time at all. All they know is that when it is light outside, they should be up and we should be up taking care of their various needs.
Blackie wants to be fed, over and over again. Can’t we see the sky is getting light and daylight approaching? Who cares that it is somewhere between 5:45 and 6:45 a.m.?
Meanwhile, Honey’s bladder and her need to heed the call of nature seems directly dependent on how much light is shining through the windows. She wants to be let outside sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. (This morning it was 6:18.) Meanwhile Hubby and I just see a clock that tells us it is way too early and we really don’t want to get out of bed. Really. When the time springs forward suddenly what was 6a.m. is 7 a.m., a much more civilized hour. It is a miracle.
Now some yahoo in the California assembly wants to do away with daylight savings time. Who ever it is is an idiot, and I don’t even have to find out their name to know that. They also apparently have never had pets. They are also probably a morning person.
Even without the pet problem, I love daylight savings time. Around here, at the height of summer, it stays light until 8 pm. I love puttering around in the yard in the late evening, when it is cool, and now they want to take that pleasure away from me. Do they realize this move on their part will require me to get up at 6 am all summer and will cause my yard to be in disrepair cause I AM NOT doing yard work first thing in the morning. Sometimes it is only cool enough after 7 pm to go out in the yard. Six am does not substitute for 7 pm. Not ever.
Cause trouble? Who, us? No! All the trouble is caused by those kittens!
Who’s this idiot who wants to do away with daylight savings time and what’s his/her reason?
Ah yes, my cats love springing forward. Not so much falling back. In the fall there is a long transition until they adjust to their new feeding schedule. I swear they are anticipating the new time. Right now I wake up to three cats staring at me. Eerie.
