Big Day!
Woman in the Middle | December 14, 2015I have great news! Today Youngest Daughter starts her first ever, real life, honest to goodness, adult job! In the six months since graduation she has filled out untold numbers of applications, has had numerous interviews, and two false starts. Who interviews someone, tells them they think they are great, sends them the benefits package, has the HR person call to tell them the guy they interviewed with wants a second interview, but is unavailable for the next two weeks, but that he thinks you are great, and then never calls or returns the three emails you send? Well, I could tell you who, but I will refrain at the moment!
Anyway, the new company Youngest will be working for does, amongst other things, large-scale heating, AC, plumbing, and electrical systems. They recently redid the HVAC system for the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland. (FYI, if a company has done ANY work for Disney, they WILL mention it is the job interview). The interview Youngest had with them was sort and sweet, but it resulted in her getting a job offer, so who are we to complain?
It was obvious from her interview that they wanted a mechanical engineer with good communication skills. When they asked her about her communication skills, she said she felt she was very good in that department. One of the men chuckled, and said that on an early morning on a foggy day it would be clear she had good communication skills. Finally, someone appreciated what my baby has to offer!
Of course, I got up to see Youngest off. I got out some snacks for her to take, made sure she had all of her paperwork, told her she looked good, and noticed that she was wearing MY earrings LOL! She wore them to her interview, so maybe she thinks they will bring her good luck.
Then, in a mom move of extraordinary proportions, I made her pose by the front door, so I could take a picture, just like I did every year from kindergarten through 12th grade. My baby was going out to conquer the world and I had to record the moment for posterity!
This is a great day indeed! Worthy of a photo!
Congratulations!!!! I hope she loves it!
Some people are just down right rude, not returning emails and getting a persons hopes up that they indeed have the job and then nothing becomes of it, I hope your daughter rocks at her new job
Well, congratulations are definitely in order! What is the title of her position called?
I just asked. She said she is a “project engineer.”
Oh, wonderful!
