Another Day…Another Closet
Woman in the Middle | November 13, 2015I mentioned in my last post that I was helping Eldest Daughter organize her closet in order to fit some things in there that I wanted out of other parts of the house. Even though we have only lived in this house five and a half years, it was a bit like an archeological dig through Eldest’s recent but past life.
I had purchased her this thing that hangs in the closet that holds purses because, at the time, she had quite a few of them. Well, there it was, still full of smallish purses, none of which she uses any more. She likes big, mondo, giant bags instead. Almost all of the purses went in the adios pile. On a side note, I don’t know how Eldest stands to use big bags as purses. I wouldn’t be able to find anything in them. Sometimes she has a hard time, as well, But I will say when we go someplace, like Disneyland or shopping, her big bag can fit anything at all. “Do you have a jacket?” “It’s in my bag.” “Do you have an umbrella?” “It’s in my bag.” ”Are you hungry? “No, I have an entire meal for five, plus utensils, in my bag.” That last one was an exaggeration, I admit. But I have seen her pull the occasional granola bar out of her bag.
Then there was the collection of fancy dresses, all 12 of them! Some are from high school and some are from college. Some are short and some are long. There was also one bride’s maid dress (for a marriage that has already gone kaput.) I am looking for a prom dress charity to donate them to. Until then, they have gone back in the closet as there is no place else to put them.
I talked her into getting rid of two stuffed animals (from the dozens she still owns,) These two were from an old boyfriend. A nice guy, but, well, it was not meant to be. They look like new. But they are going away as well.
The purse holder has been replaced by a shoe holder. Like any self respecting woman, Eldest has a lot of shoes. In the end the things I wanted in that closet manages to fine a place and I think we left it in a better state than it was before. Yay!
