I See My Future
Woman in the Middle | September 18, 2015We have all known elderly people who stop watching what is on television now and instead entertain themselves with old TV shows and movies. They are so cute and quaint in their viewing habits, revisiting those shows they liked in their younger years. They are also so completely out of it when it comes to current culture.
I realized yesterday that is very soon going to be me. I looked at the list of new TV shows coming this fall. After eliminating all shows on cable stations we don’t get, I found exactly one, yes one, that even looks appealing, and this one is only barely above 50% on the appeal scale. I didn’t realize that elderly television watching habits started at 53. Soon I won’t know who the latest Ryan Seacreast is. I will never be able to do another People magazine crossword puzzle because I will won’t know the names of any actors under the age of 50. (Who am I kidding, I am already there on that one!) Slowly all the shows I watch will be canceled and I will be left watching PBS and reruns to entertain me in the evenings. And I say …sigh…
Uh oh! I think I’m there!
I don’t think it’s an elderly person’s habit you’re describing; I think the TV shows are horrible too! They HAVE been horrible for many years now. Who WOULD want to watch them these days? They are so obvious, you can figure out the plots within the first few minutes! I watch Netflix myself. This way, I can search for the few good ones that are out there.
We watch Netflix and You Tube quite a bit now.
I’m there. Not interested in the really stupid young love rom-coms (and there are so many of them). This summer has been particularly painful. Fortunately I don’t watch much TV in the summer. This year has been full of Big Bang reruns or Castle if I can find one. Summer seems to be reality season. I remember my Mom trying to find Laurence Welk back in the day.
Yeah I get it often I feel that many of the latest shows are crap not worth watching
I agree the summer is pretty bad. I don’t have cable at all, yet I still find enough shows to watch. Wayward Pines was pretty good this summer, but since all the adults were killed off, I don’t know if I’ll watch next year. I also rent movies FREE from the library during the summer.
I feel my age when Jeopardy has a Pop music category. I’m lucky to recognize one name!
We found enough to watch over the summer as well. We caught up on our regular shows that were on the Tivo and Youngest Daughter found us a new sow to watch on Netflix called “White Collar.” We also started watching Frankie and Grace.
