Kitten Update
Woman in the Middle | September 16, 2015I took the kittens in Friday for another round of shots. After just three weeks Lumos gained another pound and now weighs 6 lbs., fifteen ounces. Nox, who has been a little pig lately, went from 5 pounds to six pounds, eight ounces. He, just that quick, suddenly made up almost half a pound on his brother. That explains why he is always, and I do mean always, the first one at the food bowl lately.
Lumos tries really hard to be the alpha male in their relationship. It isn’t unusual for him to growl at Nox when I put food down first thing in the morning, causing Nox to slink away from the food. However, this week I noticed when Lumos gave Nox the evil eye Nox just calmly kept on eating. He was feeding that growth spurt, come hell or high water or pushy brothers, I can see now.
The new kitten tree has given the boys a real opportunity to hone their jumping skills, for good or for bad. For good because that is what cats do, they jump. For bad because now they are jumping on everything. The top of my dresser had gotten out of control because that is where everything was getting thrown to get it away from the kittens. I finally started putting things where they belonged yesterday and had unearthed a small area. That instantly became the spot they jumped to to launch their exploration of the exciting (to them) things on top of the dresser.
We are up at the top of the cat tree…so now what do we do?
Blackie is still not happy that we have the kittens, but other than the occasional howl of displeasure or a hiss or two, it is all good. They leave him alone, he leaves them alone. Unfortunately, Honey is another story. If the kittens are crawling around on the couch or hanging out in the crate in the den, she will either ignore them or whine. But, if they do something wild and crazy like run, it sets off a barking frenzy that can be very hard to stop. Sooooo, we are still working on that.

So adorable, yet so hard to photograph!
Don’t tell Nox and Lumos, but the big appointment to, um, shall we say, fix a couple of things, is next week. My little boys are growing up. Time to be a responsible parent!
They are so adorable! And yes, snip, snip when they are young is best!
Thanks for the update I like hearing about the kitten
Maybe snipping them will make them calmer, and the older ones will like them better.
