Slammed with Spam
Woman in the Middle | September 13, 2015I have gotten slammed with spam comment on this here blog the last couple of days. This morning, when I logged on, I had 61 spam comments, just from over night. In a few hours I will probably have 30 more.
I was having real problems with this a few years ago and I solved it by making it so comments could only be left on posts of mine that were only two weeks old or newer. With hundreds of blogs posts at this point, that has helped tremendously. But, now, something in the world wide web has focused their beady eyes on my blog and is commenting away. I wouldn’t mind except for the fact that these spam comments bury the real comments and makes it hard to find them. I also have to spend too much time deleting the spam comments.
Any suggestions, fellow bloggers, on how to stop them?
Thanks
WordPress filters out the spam on my blog. I also have a setting that only commenters who have previously commented (and you have approved) are put through. All other commenters go into a queue for my approval. I know your blog is different from mine so I don’t know if those suggestions would work. I’m surprised they get through with the captcha.
Thank you for the info. I will have to talk to my techie friend who helped me set it up.
We all get spam, filters are good at keeping most of the spam out but I find they don’t work all the time proving you are not a computer helps but not always, as I feel there are people out there who like to leave spam type comments really people not a computer, thankfully I don’t get a lot of spam
Usually I get a few a day, but 61 over night was a bit much!!!
That is a lot!
I know!!! I a getting a sore wrist just from deleting!!!
