A Bleary Eyed Day
Woman in the Middle | September 9, 2015It is going to be one of those days that I stumble through, very tired. You see, it has been very hot here. Since the kittens spend the night in their kitten condo in the garage, at least for now, we open the garage up in the evenings on hot days like yesterday in over to cool it off for them. I had everything ready for them – fresh water, canned food, clean litter box, and I went into the house and picked them both up to put them to bed for the night.
What happened next is a bit of a blur. It had something to do with Nox getting insecure about how he was being put into the condo. It may have had to do with noises coming from outside as Hubby was putting out the trash cans. Whatever the case, I suddenly had two armfuls of squirmy slightly panicked kittens. Then Nox knocked one of the bowls of food to the ground, shattering it. Oh Boy, that was when all H-E-Double Hockey Sticks broke out! I managed to get Lumos into the condo, but Nox made a break for it, leapt from my arms, and ended up outside.
We looked for him, all four of us, for an hour. Not a peep was heard or a sighting made. Hard to find a black cat at night. Finally, about midnight, the rest of the family went to bed and I took over “kitten watch.” After several more sweeps of the yard I finally went to bed about 1:30. I woke back up at 4 am to do another sweep. Finally, I heard his little “mew.” After trying to locate him with no success, I got Hubby out of bed. Between the two of us we finally saw him, hiding in the bushes behind Hubby’s shop building in the back yard. Poor Nox was too freaked out by the sounds of crunching leaves and the flashlights to come out. We tried to lure him out with treats for about 15 minutes and, finally, Hubby just worked his way into the bushes to where Nox was hiding. By then Nox was happy to be picked up, even if he hadn’t been willing to come out.
About 5 am Hubby and I went back to bed. We all agree that the garage doors will be shut before we take them out any more. I think they will also be taken one at a time. Meanwhile, Nox has a new knick name – we are calling him the “prodigal son.”
I have far to many of those days, Nox sounds like a bit of a handful, but I bet he is so damn adorable
He is adorable and we are so happy we found him, whatever the time it was!
Hmmm….I thought they were staying in your bedroom? Of course you wouldn’t get much sleep when they start playing at 3 a.m. How is Blackie doing? Still ignoring them?
Bell balls being batted around are not conducive to sleep. When I have tried to take a nap with them they start purring and then they like to lick my face. Also not conducive to sleep, but adorable. Blackie and his mini me Nox seem to have come to an understanding. But Lumos doesn’t seem to quite know what to do around the big old cat and still gets hissed at.
Ah yes! The good days of having kittens. No peace but lots of fun except that it’s all the time.
Poor Nox scared himself silly!
They just don’t want you to get bored with life. Excitement leads to heavy happy sleep later.
