When the World Is New
Woman in the Middle | August 8, 2015You forget how scary the world is to the very young. I remember the very first time we took the girls to Disneyland. We couldn’t wait to take them on that all time favorite ride, Pirates of the Caribbean. They were five and almost three. FYI, Pirates of the Caribbean is one heck of a scary ride when you are five and almost three and it is the first time you have ever gone on it. Oops!
Last night was a beautiful night. By 7:30 it had cooled down significantly, the first time in a couple of weeks it had done that. Both girls decided to go for a swim in our pool. I went around and happily opened windows. I was particularly happy to open the master bedroom window and clear out the smell of kitten poo. I thought the kittens would enjoy having he window open. Blackie sure loves to sit by an open window and observe the world. The master bedroom window looks out over the back yard and the pool. Youngest was swimming away, doing a few laps. FYI, the sound of that much water splashing is very scary to kittens.
Lumos headed under the bed immediately. Nox was right after him but I managed to catch him. Another splash and he as up and over my shoulder and onto the far side of the bed. When youngest stopped swimming I put him on the window sill. He was concerned, but stayed there until she stared swimming again. Then it was off the sill, onto the floor and up on to the bed. Apparently observing the splashing from the bed was a little less scary. A couple of minutes later Lumos had come back out and they were off on another bought of wrestling. Scary times were over until the next swimming session!
Young pets are constantly entertaining! You never know how they will react!
You wouldn’t think the kittens would be afraid of a little splashing, but there it is!
Yeah we often don’t think about how scary things are to the young
