It is a Lumpy World
Woman in the Middle | April 1, 2015Yes, life can be lumpy sometimes. I am sure you know what I mean! But today it was lumpy for us because Honey the dog had a lump on her ear. It had gotton bigger over the past week so I looked it up online. It was extactly what I thought it was – a hematoma from her shaking her head and hitting her ear on something.
It just so happend that I was in a car last night with two friends who, between them, have owned about a million dogs. They confirned what the internet said. They also confimred that it wasn’t going to go away on its own and Honey was going to have to visit the vet.
Working on the assumptin that a smaller lump would be easier to take care of than a larger one, I took Honey off to the vet today. When I arrived everyone in the office was shocked I were there without the cat. It was comical to see their double takes when they saw the dog with me.
It turns out It wasn’t they best day to go to our vet’s office because on Wednesdays they have a reduced cost spay and neuter clinic and a shot clinic. There was also the fact that a homeless man came rushing into the office with a bleeding dog. He announced he couldn’t pay but would they please help. I am happy to report that they did help the poor dog. It turns out that the dog had a tiny cut on its leg in just the right spot to cause an amazing amount of bleeding. It was an easy fix once they were sure that was all it was.
Meanwhile poor Honey was not a happy camper. At one point a HUGE German Shepard walked by. It was a good dog but I couldn’t be sure Honey would be a good girl in such close quarters. I held her head as the giant dog gave her a good sniff as it went by. The look on poor Honey’s face! Pure terror!
We were finally put in a room an hour after our appointment time. It took another hour to get Honey examined and have the lump taken care of. Meanwhile Eldest Daughter and I tried to entertain ourselves with texting and chit cht in between trying to calm Honey down. I also picked up food and medicine for Blackie.
It seems that I am often at the vet when someone brings in their beloved pet to be put down. Today was no exception. So, while Honey’s issue was minor, between the bleeding dog and the crying people, as well as dealing with our own unhappy dog for so long, Eldest and I were emotionally exhausted when we got home. Honey was pretty exhausted from the trama of it all as well. All three of us just collapsed! Like I said, life can be lumpy sometimes!
Well, I am SO glad that Honey feels better!
Nothing is as exhausting as a vet trip. When a pet comes in to be put down, I bawl along with the owner. My poor pet wonders what’s going to happen. My main vet only does cats which is a good thing but my back up vet does small animals. Fortunately the dogs have a different waiting area although my poor cat can hear the woofs. Glad everyone is ok.
Yeah I get his, good the vet took care of the dog with the cut leg, I have heard of vets who if you can’t pay send you on your way which is wrong but they do it because it is all about the dollar not the animal
