Blackie was back to the vet yesterday because we couldn’t get him to eat. It was obvious he felt nauseated. The vet gave him a shot for the nausea and told us to feed him what ever he wanted, just as long as we could get him to eat. I asked her for recommendations. She said “Try Fancy Feast. I don’t know what they put in it, but it is like crack for cats.” The problem, she said, is once cats have it, they don’t ever want to go back!
I ran to the store and got Blackie his very own can of tuna as well as some Fancy Feast. Keeping is issue with Fancy Feast in mind, I tried the tuna first. It was obvious he was more interested in eating, but it was still like pulling teeth. Every time I offered the tuna he would lick the juice for a bit, and then turn away. My evening was spent offering tuna every 20 minutes or so.
Finally, just before we went to bed, I cracked open a can of Fancy Feast and mixed a bit of it in with the tuna. Just like that, Blackie settled in and finished almost the whole bowl. Hubby, Eldest Daughter, and I looked at each other in astonishment. It was the most Blackie had eaten in four days. The vet was right, Fancy Feast truly is Kitty Crack! For a cat to like Fancy Feast over straight tuna was a major surprise to us.
Blackie ate again this morning, but only once I put his bowl on top of a coffee can. He didn’t seem to like having to lean down to eat. Yes, I am a seriously indulgent pet owner. But the coffee can was better than holding the bowl for him while he ate!
