Ginger, Caeser, and the Red Satin Balls
Woman in the Middle | December 9, 2014When Hubby was a teenager his family had two pets. Caesar was a an orange tiger stripped tabby cat and Ginger was a fluffy white Samoyed. Both were strays that his family rescued. They also both figure in to one of Hubby’s favorite Christmas stories.
Hubby and his family had a 7 foot tall artificial Christmas tree. I think this was a pretty expensive tree for the time as it looked really good and was quite sturdy. At that time Hubby’s mom was into decorating the tree with dozens of red satin Christmas balls. Each ball had a little red, green, or white Christmas ribbon his mom had added to the top. The tree was finished with garland. Mom-in- law liked things to be just so, so I can imagine her covering the tree with carefully placed red balls.
Caesar the cat discovered how fun it was to climb this sturdy Christmas tree. Once he got up in the tree, he liked to bat at a red Christmas ball until it fell off the tree. Then he would move onto the next ball. Meanwhile, Ginger the dog was quite concerned about these red balls falling to the floor. She would carefully pick each one up and take it in and give it to Hubby’s dad, Jim. By the end of the evening Jim would have quite the collection of satin balls by his chair, each one damp with dog spit.
We saved a few red satin balls to put on our tree now, in honor of Mom-In Law, Dad-In-Law, Caeser, Ginger and the spitty Christmas ornaments.
What a wonderful Christmas story!
Thank you for the smile this morning
I am glad it gave you a smile!
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful Christmas memory! How sweet!
That must have been hilarious to watch!
We remember Ceasar and that beautiful Samoyed Ginger very well. That’s the reason why we don’t put up a tree. 2 cats? I don’t think so……LOL…..
Knock on wood ourselves. As Jackson Galaxy said, we have a bush cat, not a tree cat. Blackie has never wanted up our Christmas tree.
