They’re coming again!
Woman in the Middle | November 1, 2014I have lived in this house for over four years now. You would think I would be used to the never-ending cycle of the Navel orange tree. But I am not. That tree amazes me 365 days a year. Last winter I gave the tree a trim. Due to the way our Santa Ana winds blow, the tree leans a little. I trimmed up one side to make it look a little more even and I cut out some dead wood.
Well, apparently the tree liked it. It seems to have less oranges on it this year but is making up for that by growing oranges the size of basketballs. OK, I exaggerate, but some of the oranges on the tree are the size of grapefruit. Keep in mind that these globes of deliciousness won’t even be ripe until late December or early January. I am beginning to wonder how big these oranges will get before they are ready to eat.
You are so lucky! By the time they pick them, box them and send them up north, it’s just not the same as picking them fresh from a tree in your yard.
Ironically, I can’t eat oranges. But they make our friends and neighbors really happy!
I would love to have an orange tree as I love oranges…………
Wow! I picture you enjoying giant oranges in December! Seems pruning has that effect on some plants. Before we could spray it with Liquid Fence, the deer pruned my big chrysanthemum bush. There were still some buds left when we finally got around to spraying. Those buds are now giant mum flowers that look more like big roses! Isn’t nature wonderful?
Wow, happy eating for your family and neighbors!
And for cousins!
