We are so Boring
Woman in the Middle | September 29, 2014I know, you think I live in hip and happening Southern California, home to all that is new and interesting. That may be the case along the coast, but as I have explained before, in Inland So Cal, we might a well live in the middle of Nowhere, USA, given the shopping choices we do not have.
Over the weekend we went to a wedding in San Diego. There were a couple of hours to kill between the wedding and the reception so, as we made our way from one place to the next we kept our eyes open for something to do to occupy some time. We didn’t see much. They only thing we spotted was a small grocery store called Barron’s that looked like a mini Whole Foods store. My family is so boring and live so far from anything like that that we actually stopped and wandered thorough a grocery store. Are we sad or what?
We oohhed and aahhed over the cheese selection. We admired all the dried fruits. They even had dried lemon slices that had been soaked in sugar syrup. They looked amazing! We looked at all the wine, soda, and beer that we have rarely if ever seen. Basically, we acted like some rubes who finally got to visit the big city. We were just plain embarrassing. We ended up buying two bottles of wine and a back of Asagio cheese and peppercorn puff snack things that were delicious.
Then we went to the wedding reception and tried to look like we knew which fork to use and like we didn’t time travel from another century. Like I said, sad and boring!
You are among the few remaining innocents in the world who can appreciate the little things.
Well, that is the way to put a positive spin on it!!!
Up until 10 years or so ago, your hometown sounds like mine. Then we got super glamorous supermarkets with foo foo items and large box stores and small cool bistros. The problem with all of that is that you spend more money on things you don’t want or need. But it is fun!
Oh, the cheese selection…and we do love cheese!
You sound like me and Tim we would also wonder through the grocery store and I would love to check out the cheese section as I love cheese so I guess we are boring as well
Speaking of cheese, have you ever tried Italian cheese with bits of black truffle from Trader Joe’s? My new go-to cheese!
We haven’t tried that one. I will have to get some. It sounds yummy!
I think experiencing stores in new places is interesting; therefore I declare myself NOT boring!
I do love exploring stores in new places as well. I guess I just don’t consider San Diego a new place….But in any case, I am sure you are not boring!!!
