Poor Blackie
Woman in the Middle | July 17, 2014Be forewarned, the following post will mention poop.
Poor Blackie. He has developed something called “mega colon.” Cats get this sometimes. It makes it had for him to poop. We thought we had it under control but we didn’t. He stopped pooping. Then he stopped eating. Then I took him to the vet. He had to spend the night. They are taking large sums of my money but they are also getting the poop out of him in any way they can, which, whatever the case may be, will require them to be up close and personal with Blackie’s poop. That makes it very understandable why it will cost so much. Sigh.
So we are changing his diet and hoping that will fix the problem. Blackie and his pooping issues are costing us all kinds of money, like taking a vacation kinds of money. I love my kitty, but would prefer he be able to poop by himself. I think he would prefer that, too.
UPDATE: Blackie is back home. He is now on medicine for his high thyroid and on a special low bulk diet. We had previously been controling his thyroid problem with special food. He is happy to be on his favorite rug but walking like sometihng less than pleasant happened to his back end. I am sure that will clear up soon and this whole thing will be, once again, an unpleasant memory.
I’ve been hearing about this more and more. Maybe it’s the commercial diet they get instead of dead rodents. At least you don’t have to dig the poop out. Wishing Blackie the best!
Is Blackie overweight? I put my cat on a strict diet & after he lost 10 lbs we never had another constipation problem. I did have to put up with a lot of complaints from Shang though.
Not any more. He just weighs 15.5 pounds now, down from a high of 22 a few years ago.
Oh, I feel so badly for Blackie – and now you too. We worry so about our beloved pets.
That does not sound fun for Blackie, you or any of the other humans involved in the “extraction” process. It’s so difficult to see our pets uncomfortable. Good luck to all of you.
Sorry to hear about Blackie’s problems but nice to hear he is home again and doing better
