I Wasn’t Last
Woman in the Middle | June 5, 2014I participated once again in my city’s 5K run/walk. Since I have actually been exercising these last couple of months, it went better for me than last year, I am happy to report.
First, on the wicked hill my urge to sit down and refuge to budge came later and lasted less time. I was almost near the top when the overwhelming urge to start knocking on people’s doors and ask for a drink and the chance to sit on their couch washed over me. It didn’t help that a lady in front of me stopped one of the event vans and got a ride to the top. Man, it was very hard not to join her!
I finished faster this year and, best of all, I met my goal to NOT BE LAST! We all have to have goals. right? There were at least four whole adult people who crossed the finish line after me. I was officially not last.
My friend Tracy walked with me which allowed Hubby to do his thing at his own pace, which was a much faster pace than mine. Once he was done he walked back and met us. That puzzled the people at the finish line, who are friends of ours. He kept hearing, “Hey, didn’t you already finish?”
I want to walk another 5K this year. But I would like that one to be on the flat lands, not in the hills!
CONGRATULATIONS! It is to your credit that you did not knock on doors and ask to lie down! And you met your goals too! I am greatly impressed. You are a far far better exercise devotee than I.
Really, this is a very new thing for me. But, it only took 52 years to do it….
I like to do a free 5K offered by one of my local community hospitals every year. I’m training for it right now.
Hills are killers no matter how big or small they are. My last favorite hills are the short but step one. Congrats on finishing! Even if you had finished last you can still say you finished! Just wondering, as a mom of two former cross country runners, what was your time?
Not worth talking about – over an hour.
You did good, you are amazing because I can tell you I wouldn’t do that good
