No Longer For Me
Woman in the Middle | April 13, 2013Have you ever had the experience of walking into a store you have shopped at for years, even decades, and realizing that store just isn’t for you anymore? I just did that a few weeks ago at my old friend Target. We used to be pals. I still admire many things my old friend has on display. But the prices seem just a smidge high and, well, at 51 it takes more than just a pretty face to make me want to be your friend.
Breaking up is hard to do so I wandered in to Target again last week. Again, it is a magical place full of lots of wonderful things…none of which I want to buy. I think Target is trying to appeal to a demographic that I do not belong to, namely young families. I sort of feel like a girl who had been jilted by a boyfriend who said he wants a blond, not a brunette.
I will still go in to Target on occasion. I might even buy a bottle of shampoo there once in a while. But I don’t think it will ever be the same. Breaking up is hard to do….
Oh I know that feeling. In my sixties, I am not the demographic that anyone caters to anymore. Maybe except Starbucks! I miss some of my old favs but they don’t carry what I like. I’ve got a lot of mileage left so I will keep looking for a fit!
So where are you shopping instead? Target is so close to me it’s just convenient for small items.
I have Kmart by me and I can get things at the grocery store as well. For more decorative home items I check out Home Goods and Ross and some times Kohls. For toiletries I can also go to Rite Aid and Walgreens since they are near me. If I lived as close to Target as you do I might go there more but since I have to make a special trip it just isn’t worth it to me anymore.
You too, huh? Target did me wrong too, so I kicked it to the curb. Maybe we can renew our friendship in a year or two. In the meantime, I like Wal-Mart, $.99 Store, and K-Mart. I’ve also found a new friend in JC Penney, because it keeps having sales on really cute clothes and shoes. Why, I just found a pair of New Balance shoes on sale for $28 (tax included). So, Target Shmarget!
Yeah I know what you mean I have had such experiences myself, I use to love to shop at Supre for clothes then in a blink they went from a store for the adverage size woman to a store for really skinny gals………….
