Judging the Economy, One Plant at a Time
Woman in the Middle | April 2, 2013A couple that lives not to far from me has a wholesale nursery that sells plants of the succulent type. Once a year, in the spring, they hold a garden tour at their home. I always try to attend because their garden is very pretty and I love succulents so it gives me a chance to pick up a few new plants (much to Hubby’s chagrin.).
For some reason they held the garden tour event this past weekend, which was, of course, Easter weekend. We showed up about 4 p.m. on Saturday for a quick stroll, a little chat, and some serious plant selection. What the couple holding the open house told me was quite interesting. Apparently Saturday morning they had absolutely hordes of people come through their garden and the plants were flying off the shelves. 2007 was the last year that they had that kind of traffic and that kind of sales at their open house.
So, if you want to use the “succulent scale” for judging the economy, apparently inland So Cal is beginning to do better!
I hope so. My husband’s surveying business has been all but dead since 2007. By God’s grace have we made it this far and I trust Him to get us through.
My work history has been primarily working for local government in the planning department. So I know what you mean! When planners can’t get work civil engineers and surveyors can’t get work either! I am impressed that you have mananged to survive! I hope it is picking up in your area as well! At the city I am working in we are really starting to see a pick up in business.
I keep starting a comment and don’t like it and hit delete and start again and again don’t like it so I am just going to say I came for a vist………..
And you are always welcome for a visit!
I love home, garden, and historical building tours. One time, many moons ago, my dad and I went on a tour of some millionaires’ homes in Lake Arrowhead. That was THE BEST TOUR!! One home even had a Redwood tree growing through it!
