Time is Passing But Forgot to Tell Me
Woman in the Middle | March 18, 2013Today is the 21st birthday of my youngest child. People, how is that possible??? Obviously, when I look at my child I can see that she is an adult. I have watched her grow up. I have about a million photos to prove it. There are papers tucked away that show mile stones have been reached such as middle school graduation, first drivers licence, high school graduation, etc… She even had to sit on a jury last summer, for a child molester no less. I have been there for all of it, even if I didn’t want to be (please don’t ever make me teach someone to drive again). And yet I am still shocked and surprised to find myself the mother of not one but two daughters that are 21 and older.
My how time flies, and yet I feel like I am just 30 or so most of the time. Well, except for the first five months I was 30 when I was pregnant with said 21-year-old daughter. I don’t feel pregnant, I am happy to report.
I recently overheard an elderly person say old age isn’t so bad because in your mind you feel like you are still young. What she didn’t say is that you have to avoid mirrors to keep your mind fooled, but that was still a comfort to me. Now I just have to cover the bathroom mirrors…
The good news is that your eyesight gets worse so you can’t see the mirrors too clearly!
No kidding! I have to get byfocals soon. I am not pleased….
hahahahaha That’s good!
In church yesterday, I was sitting with the youth girls. One asked me if I had gotten a hair cut. I had. We started talking about coloring our hair. I said I couldn’t decide if I want to go gracefully gray or not. One of the girls said, “Don’t go gray. You’re too young.” I just had to give the girl a hug. That was the sweetest thing every said to me!!!!
It was only a couple of weeks ago that I said to hubby “can you belive we have a 28yr old” sometimes I wonder if my parents ever thing that well not that they have a 28yr old because they don’t but they do have a 50yr old daughter and their baby is 34 now
There’s a book by Dr. Seuss called, “You’re Only Old Once”. I think I might just read that . . . .
I feel that way too…I don’t know how I have a 15 soon to be 16 year old. It seems like he was just a baby not too long ago. Time sure has flown!! Way too fast for me!
I don’t even need mirrors to remind me. Just moving and feeling the aches and hearing the creaks is enough to remind me I’m not so young anymore.
My 5 kids are 14-22. Just last month our middle child turned 18. We now have more adult children than not. That freaked me out. I’m not even going to think about when my youngest turns 21. That might just push me over the edge.
