How Times Have Changed
Woman in the Middle | January 30, 2013I was looking though newspapers from 1905, doing some research, when I came across an ad for something called Scott’s Emulsion. It said, in part,
“Did you ever hear a mother worry over a plump child? There is no better bank of health for a child to draw from than a good supply of healthy flesh.”
I about fell over when I read that! I think times have changed a little bit since then! By the way, Scott’s Emulsion was cod liver oil. That must have been fun for the little kiddos to have to swallow every day!
My mother was made to drink something called “waste away tea” until her pediatrition told my grandmother she was perfectly healthy & to leave her alone. Needless to say Mom was a confirmed coffee drinker.
Yeah I think times have changed and Cod Liver Oil well I take it every day via a capsule but wouldn’t want to have to drink it………………..yuck……………..
I remember seeing old ads for the Cambell Soup Kids, and they were chubby! I’ve also tried the liquid version of cod liver oil and one word describes it: Slimy!
My mom would rub fish oil on cuts and scars to help them be less noticeable. Worked pretty well. Wonder if it would work on wrinkles.
