More Rose Float Fun
Woman in the Middle | January 3, 2013Here are a few more photos from our day in Pasadena decorating Cal Poly Universities’ AWARD WINNING rose float! In case you missed my previous update, the float won the Bob Hope Humor award! Yay!!!! I am sure my excellent rice gluing work and my amazing ability to pull leaves off of Silver Leaf stalks and place them in neat rows on paper towels was a HUGE contributor….or not….but I had fun any way!

This is the City of San Gabriel float, which was being decorated in the same tent as the Cal Poly float. Note the people swarming over it. That was something I noticed this year since we went in to decorate one day later than last year. People were EVERYWHERE on the floats, tiny ants decorating away!

Here are the penguins that were on the front of the float. As you can see, they are painted the exact colors of the plant materials that will be used on them, but these guys haven’t been decorated yet. They are still adorable!

This photo was taken while I was standing on the float and is looking towards the front. Remember what I said about swarms of people?

This is the float that the Rose Queen and her court rode on in the parade. It was already covered in any dried material used and was waiting for all of the roses to be placed on it. The plastic is protecting those areas that have already been decorated with the dried material. If you saw it in the parade it looked very different!

Looklng good I like seeing how a float is put together
That is so cool to see. I remember decorating homecoming floats with chicken wire and squares of tissue paper. That was hard enough!
