Honey + Thunder = Scared Dog
Woman in the Middle | July 16, 2012Sometime in the middle of Thursday night/Friday morning I noticed a bit of far off thunder, then I rolled over and went back to sleep. Just another symptom of the weird weather we had last week. Honey the dog apparently felt differently about the thunder. Hubby told me she was still sleeping in the hallway when he got up. Usually by that point she has moved from her beginning of the night hallway position to her nice comfy bed in the family room. Even if she hasn’t moved, she usually jumps up when she sees him and gets on her bed, with a look that says “See, I have been on my bed all along!!!”
Well, not Friday morning. When Honey saw Hubby she just gave him the “Monsters are everywhere” look and didn’t move. I was unaware of all of this and slept peacefully on….When I got up in the morning Honey jumped up and ran to the garage door as usual. We let her out to the yard through the garage. But once I made my way out to the garage and opened the outside door, Honey decided she wanted no part of that. I hadn’t removed the cat flap cover yet so Honey and I had a stand-off in the garage. I wasn’t letting her back in the house and she wasn’t going outside. Unfortunately, Honey is one of those dogs that piddles when she is in trouble, especially if she hasn’t been out in a while. And she hadn’t been out all night!
So she rolled and piddled, I dragged, she escaped and piddled, I dragged some more, she piddled some more, and so it went for several minutes. I finally got the poor thing outside where she gave me the “They are going to eat me” look while she trembled. Really, it is a look designed to shoot knives of guilt into a human’s heart! However, knowing that I was going to be cleaning up a puddle on the carpet if she didn’t go out allowed me to close the door in her face.
Then I called Hubby to tell him about his crazy dog and he reminded me of the thunder. Oh yeah…..Honey really hates thunder, even thunder that happened several hours before.
Poor Honey! She was so scared she peed her pants.
