Never Enough Fireworks
Woman in the Middle | July 4, 2012I don’t know about you, but fireworks are few and far between in my life, so I take every opportunity to enjoy them. I am lucky because in my neck of the woods I have not one but two nights of fireworks starting last night! Yep, fireworks on July 3rd and July 4th! The Big City next door has the traditional fireworks on July 4th. They kindly shoot them off the top of the big hill that lies on the border with my Fair City so we can enjoy them without having to go too far from home. The parks district in my area has their big fireworks show on July 3rd. Why July 3rd, you might ask? Well, many years ago the parks district decided, a few months before July 4th, to have an Independence Day event with fireworks. However, by then they were way too late and all the fireworks companies were already booked for the 4th. One of the district board members asked, “What about the 3rd?” Guess what? All of the fireworks companies were available on the 3rd! And so, ever since, we have had fireworks on the 3rd and the 4th!
The family and I went out last night, along with many thousands of other people (note to self, leave earlier next year!) and got to see our first night of fireworks. They were grand! They were wonderful! And we can’t wait to see another fireworks show tonight! In honor of July 4th, here is a fireworks photograph, taken on our last trip to Disneyland. Sorry, last night’s photos aren’t downloaded yet!
I hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July!
I used to love firework shows. Every year in Crestline, I would see them. Then, my ex-husband and I volunteered to set up and shoot off firework shows each year for his friend’s firework complany. Now I’m tired of them; if you’ve seen one show, you’ve seen ‘em all. They start off slow, one at a time. Then they have a mini finale half way through the show. Finally, they have a grand finale. The shows last 30 minutes. Each show has a few salutes (Just the Bang!) and a majority of flower-types (like the one in your pic). They’re all the same colors: red, white, purple, blue, green, maybe yellow. So, like I said, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen ‘em all.
I enjoy a professional fireworks show. However, I really hate when the neighbors put on their own brand of fireworks shows especially since it’s illegal in NJ. I’ve been sitting here for the past two hours having things explode over my backyard. My cats are terrified and I’m tired of the noise.
No kidding! The booms around here went on until past 11 p.m.! And fireworks are illegal here as well. It is my understanding that people go to Mexico and get the REALLY big ones. It is sometimes hard to tell the illegal fireworks from the professional shows!
