Oh, Rats!
Woman in the Middle | July 30, 2012Back in June, when I contemplated the summer ahead, I didn’t think that I would be saying any of the following phrases:
1. Oh my lord, that is a rat on top of the fence!
2. (To our next door neighbors) We caught one rat. DId you catch any?
3. (To Hubby) The neighbors caught two rats!
4. (To Hubby) Do you think we should postpone trimming and cleaning out the giant birds of paradise plants until we’ve caught more rats?
It appears that a stand of giant birds of paradise plants in our back yard is harboring numerous rats. So summer has turned into a war with weapons and wily opponents. Hubby did not agree that more rats should be caught before the trimming began so he started on the stand yesterday.
FYI, unless you are into the messy plant look, or love spending hours doing yard work, or are independently wealthy and can hire all the work done, carefully consider whether or not you want a giant bird of paradise plant. They have a great tropical look and all, but those things are BIG (thus the word “giant” in their name) and they spread, and, apparently, they can harbor rats. Just a little tip from me!
