Woolley Mammoths Aren’t Extinct
Woman in the Middle | May 7, 2012Woolly Mammoths had long shaggy hair that grew up to a meter long. They supposedly died out about 10,000 years ago due to climate change and hunting by humans. However, I have stumbled on to a secret. A lost herd of woolly mammoths has been found right here in Southern California!!! How do I know? Well, we just spread a bunch of mammoth hair all over our yard.
Yes, the nursery we bought it from called it “cedar mulch” but I swear we just bought a bunch of woolly mammoth hair. I think they just trimmed the rust colored, hairy looking stuff off of their secret herd of mammoths. They probably have to trim the poor animals fur off due to the Southern California heat and then, to save disposal costs, they rename it and get people like me to pay to haul it off.
However, it was not probably part of their secret plot to have Hubby and I spreading that mammoth hair around on the hottest day we have had so far this year. Nope, that was our own silly fault. But I bet those mammoths were glad to get a shave when the heat wave hit!
This is a model of a mammoth which is in the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, British Columbia. The photo is from Wikimedia Commons and the author is WolfmanSF.
Somehow I’m reminded of the La Brea tar pits! (I grew up in L.A.)
People have told me that our newly mulched yard looks good, but I still think of mammoths when I see it. But I don’t think I have a tar pit, just a pool!
