Change is a good and Friday the 13th
Woman in the Middle | April 13, 2012I got a message from my email provider earlier this week. Due to “unusual activity” on my email account they were forcing me to change my password. Oh no! But I liked that password! My fingers could type it blindly. It was like a phone number that I could type out without thinking about it…but that was probably the problem. I have had that password so long it had cobwebs on it. In a world where they recommend you change your password every, oh, 24 hours or so, keeping the same one for a very long time is not the smartest thing to do. Sigh! So in the future I will change my password more frequently. Really, I will!
Today is Friday the thirteenth. Please, do not panic! I am sure your day will be normal in all respects and everything will be fine. Just take a deep breath! Apparently the superstition that Friday the 13th is unlucky is a relatively recent invention, not seen in print before the mid 1800s. It seemed to take real root in our culture after 1907 or so. So, you see, you don’t need to worry! But, just in case, don’t break any mirrors, spill any salt, or step on any sidewalk cracks! Have a great day and a great weekend!
I confess – I have a primary password plus a few variants that I use everywhere. I rotate between them when forced to change passwords. For work, my husband has a special device that gives a new password code every 15 minutes. Maybe one day all the password stuff will be standardized so I don’t need a file to track all my passwords.
