Easiest Garage Sale Ever!
Woman in the Middle | March 26, 2012In spite of spending what seems like decades getting rid of stuff, moving, and having two garage sales, I still managed to accumulate a pretty good pile of junk in the garage. This being spring break for two poverty-stricken college students, I talked my daughters into having a garage sale this pat weekend to put a little money in their pockets. Their nice Uncle (my brother) brought some things up last week for them to add to my immense pile, which was nice. Bright and early Saturday morning we climbed out of bed and started throwing junk, um , I mean lots of great stuff out on the driveway. Just as I suggested to hubby that he go put the garage sale signs out we were INUNDATED with customers. What the heck??? We hadn’t advertised the sale , no signs were out…how did these people know we were having a garage sale? I knew our new house was a better location for garage sales than our old one, but wow! How much easier could it be than put out the stuff and the people come????
Then someone asked, “Are you the estate sale?” No….”Oh, well there is an estate sale on this street. I bet you are going to get a lot of business today!” Yes!!!! We never did put the signs out, lots of junk went away, and my daughters got to split $160 bucks. When you are a poor college student, that is a lot of money! And I helped throw the easiest garage sale ever!
That is so great! I really don’t like doing them but we have a lot of stuff again. I really need two poverty-sticken college kids to help out!
You will think I am crazy but I am having another one this Saturday for a local dog rescue group. Then all the rest of the stuff goes and I am done!
You are a trooper.
Sounds like the perfect yard sale strategy – eager labor and free (second hand) publicity. I
And we didn’t even know that we were going to get free publicity! That was the wonder of it all!
The lesson to be learned here is to plan a garage sale when there is an estate sale on your block. It’s great that you got rid of so much “merchandise” and didn’t even have to advertise.
No, I am crazy. Just ask my husband!
