I Guess I am a Lizard
Woman in the Middle | January 31, 2012I think I am a lizard. Born and bred in a desert environment, I am meant to be dry and marginally dehydrated. I really don’t get that thirsty on a normal day. In the summer a cold glass of iced tea is always nice but more for the coolness factor, not because I am thirsty. Recently a doctor recommended I drink 10 glasses of water a day for what I hope is a temporary issue. Goodness! I have been trying to chug water like there is no tomorrow but that has created another problem. I can barely leave the house!
Seriously, if I drink like I supposed to I am lucky if I can go (so to speak) for an hour without needing a bathroom. A drive across town ends in agony as I rush into what ever building or house I visiting in search of the rest room. I don’t know about you, but public restrooms aren’t my favorite places. Of course I use them but I do not want to have to use them three times in one two-hour shopping trip!
I try to remind myself that it is good I have ready access to clean drinkable water, to public restrooms, to my own well used plumbing…..excuse me, I need to take a break….all that water, you know!
I am with you! I cannot drink 10 or 8 glasses of water today. That would gag me. I drink when I’m thirsty and I have made it this far.
Yeah, I try to drink water, but get tired of spending time in the bathroom. Lately I haven’t been doing too well. I heard somewhere you are supposed drink 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of liquid per day. Does that make sense? If you weigh 120 lbs you should drink 60 ounces of liquid. Any liquid will do. That’s what one dr said….but they all say something different. Anyway, I’ll meet you in the ladies room.
I drink a good quantity of water. My understanding is that the urgent need to go, or to needing to go multiple times is more related to consumption of caffeinated or acidic beverages.
